We are Philly House.
Philly’s largest and longest-running homeless shelter for men.
With 145+ years of experience, we are the second oldest homeless mission in the country and the oldest in Pennsylvania, housing some 220 men each night. More than just a meal and a bed, we build relationships with our guests to give them hope and reorient their lives.
Our Christian faith is the foundation of everything we do and compels us to treat everyone—our guests, volunteers and donors—with dignity, respect, and compassion.
Stories of Hope
More than just a safe space, warm bed and a hot meal, we empower everyone we serve, activating their God-given potential for life transformation.
The Need
For over 145 years, Philly House has been a physical and spiritual sanctuary, empowering those in need of food, shelter and hope in Philadelphia. A living legacy of John Wanamaker, we activate others’ God-given potential by serving the homeless, hungry and hurting through a wide range of loving, compassion-based programs and services.
As the city’s largest and longest-running shelter, Philly House provides a safe, clean refuge off the streets along with deep, intentional engagement to see a long-term impact.
In 2023, we sheltered 1,753* unique individual men experiencing homelessness - which represents 30% of all homeless men sheltered in the entire City of Philadelphia.
