David
After ten months at Philly House, David transformed from a man filled with worry to one who stood firmly on his identity in Christ, with a full-time job, and his own apartment.
Each day David heard the announcement after lunch - “Bible Study will meet at 1 pm in the learning center. All are welcome!” At Philly House, we know that often hope begins with a meal; that was certainly the case for David.
He struggled to face his worries until he joined a Bible study hosted on Wednesday nights at Philly House. This was the safe space for David to ask questions, grow in his faith and discover his identity in Christ. While David’s anxiety did not disappear, it faded away in time to be replaced by confidence in God, and He transformed David’s life.
David joined Philly House’s NEXT Level transitional housing program after he became an active volunteer with the Homeless Services Team. He began meeting with our Case Manager and set goals he diligently worked toward over the next four months. With dedicated consistent effort, David has been working full-time in restaurants and moved into his own apartment in December 2020.
With a heart for serving and inspiring others, David still comes back to Philly House every few weeks to connect with guests and share his life with them. This summer, David walked into the dining room and with a bright smile invited anyone interested in getting a job to come to talk to him.
He is eager to shine a light in the darkness. David is walking out his love of the Lord through his life and commitment to “caring for the least of these.”
